When your children get older, you explain the meaning of holidays to them year after year, and there is that one year where the holiday’s meaning takes hold. Today was that day for Memorial Day. I was telling Dominic about my Pappy, my mom’s father, who served as a medic in WWII, and how today is meant to honor his memory and all of the other soldiers and families who serve our country. I asked him if he would be interested in helping me commemorate this day with a photo and he jumped at the opportunity. Even though he was sick, he showered and dressed carefully in his Boy Scout uniform for this image.
Happy Memorial Day. Thank you to those who serve, thank you to those who support, thank you to those who wait. Thank you to those who have given their lives. You will never be forgotten.
