Bird’s Nest in the Cushion

We finally got our power washer working (thanks to Jack the Handyman) and we started tackling our back patio last week. It’s amazing the difference washing the concrete can make! While we were moving furniture around, we found this amazing bird’s nest built right into the seam of our chair cushion. There was a tiny newborn bird in it but it didn’t make it. I think it hatched prematurely, it didn’t even look fully formed. I’m amazed at what instinct can make… this nest is so intricate!

Curled Mom’s Hair

The boys had to go to an Eagle Scout ceremony Saturday afternoon so I invited mom over to play hair salon. I would love to be a cosmetologist! I’ve always enjoyed playing with hair. Anyway, I spritzed Mom’s hair and used the Dyson AirWrap dryer on it. She lost her natural curl a few years ago and hates her straight hair. I really enjoyed making mom’s hair curly again and making her smile too. I thought of our time together as a little early Mother’s Day gift.

Mother’s Day Thistle

Mother’s Day was a mixed blessing day. My mom came over in the morning for some coffee and quality time. Anna waited on us. Curtis was so attentive and sweet. I got some iTunes gift cards and Curtis wrote me the sweetest letter in my card. But Dominic was going through a really really tough depressive spell and didn’t come out of his room until mid-day. He missed family lunch and didn’t even hug me. I know it wasn’t personal but it still stung. I work my butt off for those kids and it would be nice to have a little effort put into Mother’s Day. I was in such a funk by late afternoon that I went outside to shoot and be by myself. I found this beautiful thistle growing all by itself in the middle of our concrete patio where we have one lone tree in the middle. It felt apropos that I shoot this prickly thistle that day.

Anna at the Eye Doctor

Anna has been complaining that she can’t see well lately. She had her annual checkup in November with Dr. Young in San Antonio and did have a prescription change just a few months ago. But I went ahead and took her in for a quick eye exam to make sure everything was okay. No worries, her prescription did not change. Dr. Young recommended some eye drops since Anna has seasonal allergies. Hopefully it will help her see better!

Storm Approaching

I took Dominic to a local counselor here in New Braunfels for the first time Tuesday. He needs someone with whom to talk to help him with a few specific issues with which he’s struggling. On our way home, a big storm started approaching from the south. Stormy weather suited the situation, that’s for sure! Dominic was kind enough to let me pull over in the neighborhood and let me get a photo. Pretty dramatic, huh?

Appealing Anole

Wednesday was another busy day as I had an appointment with the cardiologist. Because of my EDS, I’ve had a mitral valve prolapse most of my adult life that’s remained stable. I also have PVCs and PACs, benign arrhythmias, that have gotten a little worse lately. The cardiologist put a heart monitor on me to check the arrhythmias. I have to wear it for two weeks. When I got home, I went out side to see if I could find something to take a photo of. I found this cute anole on my mom’s flower basket. I really like how he’s hiding in plain sight.

Day 133, Thursday, May 14th, 2021

New Kicks

I saw a post on our neighborhood Facebook group about a new shoe store opening called Two Rivers Running. Since the owners are neighbors and I needed new exercise shoes, I went to check it out. Omg! Michelle was so sweet and patient! I had no idea that my feet were 2 different sizes. I tried on seven or eight different pairs of shoes and even tried them on the treadmill until I found just the right pair. And did you know that extra set of holes at the top is for keeping your heel from slipping? I know, right?!?
