Don’t Kiss this Bug

Our rosebushes survived the hard freezes we had this winter and are now home to a plethora of insects. I’m in macro heaven. I asked my mom what she thought this particular insect was and she thinks it might be a kissing bug. They can be dangerous to dogs because they carry a parasite that causes Chagas disease which can cause cardiac problems in dogs. So it’s not good that we are seeing these in our backyard. Kinda creepy looking, isn’t it?

Meeting’s Hubby’s Boss for Dinner

Curtis’s boss lives in the Austin area and asked if he and his wife could take Curtis and me to dinner on Saturday. It was the first time Curtis and I have gotten dressed up and gone out in a very long time. And it was the first time I’ve sat down in a restaurant and eaten a full meal cooked by someone else in over 14 months. It was really nice. We ate at Downtown Social here in New Braunfels. The food and service were amazing.

Day 101, Sunday, April 11th, 2021

Food Prep for the Week

I woke up feeling pretty good Sunday so I did something I rarely do… I did food prep for the week. I made homemade vegetarian chili and a big pot of Wick Fowler’s meat chili. I really enjoyed puttering around the kitchen for a couple of hours listening to music. And it was awesome to have meals for multiple days this week! One thing I like to do with my leftover vegetarian chili is add cinnamon to the bowl and throw it over whole wheat pasta… reminds me of Skyline chili in Ohio.

Day 102, Monday, April 12th, 2021

Jack at Work

Jack the Handyman has been in high demand so we haven’t seen him in a while. He came back Monday to work on a few things for us including replacing our laundry room faucet, replacing the back door knob on the master bedroom side porch, fixing the power washer, and hopefully coming back to install a Ring doorbell. We seem to always have miscellaneous projects to do. I can’t wait to use the power washer and get all of the Wormpocalypse debris off of our stucco. I swear every single worm decided to crawl on the sides of our house and explode. Ewww!

Day 103, Tuesday, April 13th, 2021

Charlie on the Bed

Charlie has been unusually affectionate lately following me all over the house. I was in Anna’s room Tuesday evening helping her with her bedtime routine and Charlie kept nudging me. He cannot jump on the bed anymore so I helped him get his front legs on the bed and then I heaved the rest of him up there. He was so happy that he made circles on the bed, then laid his head down on his paws looking Uber cute. I didn’t have my big camera at hand so I took a photo with my phone. Please excuse the poor quality.

Day 104, Wednesday, April 14th, 2021

Natural Camouflage

I think this may be an immature kissing bug, but I love that the colors go so well with the rosebush. I spent about 30 minutes getting dozens of photos on Wednesday but just wanted to share this one for now. There will be more to look forward to… I’m thinking of entering a couple into Naturescapes.

Day 105, Thursday, April 15th, 2021

Signing the PT Receipt

I have been having Anna pay for her PT co-pay with her SSI money. She is using her own check card and signing her own receipts. I am so proud of her! We are teaching her some basic budgeting skills, and though specific math skills remain elusive, she seems to understand money as a concept.
