First Evening Primrose

Mom noticed that the evening primroses were blooming last week and I kept forgetting to go out in our backyard to photograph one. It was already quite dark, late dusk, when I remembered on Friday. I’m usually busy with Anna when the sun is setting so even though this isn’t the best picture of a primrose, it will have to do. These flowers are so pretty! I didn’t realize that all parts of this flower are edible and that the oil in the seeds can be used to treat Sjogren’s Syndrome (of which I am afflicted). Interesting!

Day 86, Saturday, March 27th, 2021

New Braunfels PetFest

While I was at Weight Watchers Saturday morning, Curtis and Anna made a plan for the day which included getting out in the real world with the whole family. We are all vaccinated now and still haven’t been out at all yet. They found an event called New Braunfels PetFest, the first ever of its kind. It was fun to get out with other people and see all the cute pets. There was a small petting zoo area with bunnies and a tiny horse. We saw reptiles inside too! There were lots of vendors and some food trucks but the adoptable dogs were the biggest hit.

Love at First Snuggle

Anna gravitated toward the puppies of course. The only reason she wanted to attend PetFest was to see the adoptable animals. We told both Anna and Dominic that we were NOT adopting any more pets, we were only there to look. Well, Anna asked so nicely to pick up a puppy that we allowed her to hold one the second time we walked by. Awww. I mean, come on… how cute is this? This little girl was just 7 weeks old. She was so hot and tired that she melted in Anna’s arms. Everyone put the big move on me trying to persuade me to adopt her but I was resolute. Nope. I’m always the one that gets stuck training, cleaning, and caring for the pets so that was a big fat no. But it sure was tempting!

Day 87, Sunday, March 28th, 2021

Adjusting the Base

Maybe because we were out walking around for a couple of hours, Anna woke up Sunday morning with pretty bad back pain again. She was having trouble standing up from a seated position and couldn’t bend her back at all. Poor baby. Her relatively new Level Sleep bed has an adjustable base so I put in the Zero Gravity position to see if would provide some relief when she went to bed. It did help a little. But honestly the bed is just too firm. It has a full one year trial period so I contacted them Monday to see about returning it. They are sending a free mattress topper to see if that helps and if not, we can still return or exchange it. I’m impressed! I ended up keeping Anna home Monday and we got in to see Dr. Katie, Anna’s PT. She was able to work on Anna’s back to get the spasm to relax.

Inch to the End

Mom texted me Monday afternoon to let me know she had an inchworm on her arm. I jumped up, grabbed my macro lens, and hurried over. We gently relocated the tiny inchworm to a plant outside, I asked it for permission to photograph (I always do this, I know it’s dorky, but I swear they understand me), then got to shooting. He shimmied to the end of the plant leaf and waved around for a while. He was about .75” long and I couldn’t even see the little cilia around his face until I downloaded the images.

Inching to Me

Here the inchworm is coming down the leaf and stopped. I think he was posing for me! He let me take several shots before he started moving again. I didn’t have my tripod or otherwise I would’ve tried focus stacking to get more of him in focus.

Inch to the Side

The tiny inchworm crawled over to the side of the leaf and tried reaching for me. It was so cute! I love connecting with these tiny creatures and seeing little details on them that aren’t visible to the naked eye. It was so much fun getting to play with him. I thanked him for allowing me to capture him before heading back inside.

Day 89, Tuesday, March 30th, 2021

Marco’s for Dinner

We don’t often get fast food on a school night but some days just demand it. We are so grateful that Marco’s Pizza delivers all the way out to the back side of River Chase. We promised this store that we would order about once a week and so far, we’ve kept true to our promise! Their pizza is delicious! Our delivery driver thanked me for the detailed instructions on how to find our house, it’s not straightforward. He also said, “Sure!” when I asked if I could take his picture. 🙂

Day 90, Wednesday, March 31st, 2021

Puppy Dog Therapy

Dominic has been feeling extra blue lately. He says that school is still pretty isolating… requiring kids to eat separately and there is very little socializing. He only has friends in a handful of classes this semester and he’s just lonely. This is a very weird world for a teenager. I’m hoping that by the summer, things will be getting back to normal. He’ll be driving independently by then and can go visit friends when he wants. He needs some fun in his life! I’m so glad he has Stuart to snuggle up with… sometimes cuddling your own dog can be very soothing to a lonely soul.

Day 91, Thursday, April 1st, 2021

Spring Dental Checkup

Time for Anna’s 6-month dental checkup and she got a clean bill of health. No cavities! Her top wisdom teeth are fully in and the bottom ones have erupted. She hasn’t had any issues with them so we aren’t having them removed. I can’t imagine putting her through the pain of surgery unless absolutely necessary. I was telling Nicole, her hygienist, that we are so grateful that Dr. Brandon with Treetop Pediatric Dental allows Anna to stay in the practice. Technically she’s an adult now, but the pediatric atmosphere suits her needs better. He said he has a few older patients like Anna and she’s welcome to stay. <3
