The Herd Visits
One of my favorite parts of living in River Chase is the wildlife, particularly the deer. We own the empty lot next to us and ever since we moved in, the same herd of deer visits morning and evening, then they bed down in our front yard overnight. My father-in-law and Dominic built them feeders that sit off the ground and we feed them deer nutrition a few times a week. They know the sound of my voice and come running from blocks away if they hear me calling. They are so endearing.

Always with a Book
Jenny came down for a quick day visit on Saturday; she had finally received a few Christmas gifts for Dominic and Curtis that were delayed because of the postal service Christmas crunch. It was so nice to see her, I miss her so much and wish we could see her more often. We had a great time. Dominic made a homemade pizza for her to try with his new pizza stone. Anna regaled her with lots of Joey references from Friends (Matt LeBlanc is Anna’s new crush). Jenny spent about an hour with me showing me how to access the biggest online lending library in the state and I dowloaded a few more books for my Kindle. I think I’ve read almost about 10 books since Christmas! (By the way, register with the Houston Public Library, get a MyLink digital library card, then download the Libby app and put in your digital library card number. They have soooo many titles to borrow! I have a dozen books on hold now too.)
Day 24, January 24th, 2021
Weekly Pill Prep
Every Sunday, I get everyone’s pills ready for the week. I hate how many we all have to take, but they are necessary because parts of us don’t work anymore (like my thyroid and Anna’s thyroid). I am so grateful for modern medicine because these pills allow my children to not be trapped in a brain that causes agitation and unhappiness. Dominic’s psychiatrist recently changed his antidepressant and it’s really making a difference. I am seeing joy again in him. <3
Day 25, January 25th, 2021
Working at our House
We are fortunate to be able to have Rosa Gomez and her crew clean our houses once a month. There are some chores that I cannot do anymore because of my knee replacement and overall health. Rosa does an amazing job and I always recommend her when neighbors are looking for a house cleaner. We try to stay out of their way so when they are working on my house, I take the dogs to my mom’s and hang out over there. When they move to mom’s house, she and Teddy come over here and hang out. I asked mom if I could snap a photo of her working on her laptop at our dining room table. I love our living arrangement and I love my mom!
Sweet Teddy Eyes
When I turned around from snapping mom’s photo, this is what I saw… sweet Teddy eyes as he’s snuggling next to Anna (his second favorite person in the world next to mom). When mom lost Cricket last year, I didn’t think another dog could ever fill that hole. But Teddy is one of the sweetest, cuddliest, smartest, calm dogs I’ve ever met. She deserves an easy dog and she found exactly the right companion for her. Well done, momma! We all love Teddy.
Day 26, January 26th, 2021
MECHS School Pickup
One of the ways we are trying to balance COVID safety and allowing the kids to attend in person is by dropping them off and picking them up everyday. Dominic is just a month or so away from having enough hours to take his driver’s test to get his permanent license so he is usually driving there and back. Anna came with me on Tuesday to pick up Dominic and I wanted to get a photo of him walking out of his high school. He looks so grown up now.
Day 27, January 27th, 2021
Winter Dandelion
Our February New Braunfels Photographic Society assignment photo for negative space is due soon and I had a vision in mind for what I wanted to do. I spent several hours trying to make it come to fruition and I just couldn’t pull it off. To console my failings, I took a short nature walk in my backyard and captured a few pretty pictures. There is something hopeful about dandelions, isn’t there? Knowing you can pull the weed and make a wish takes me back to my childhood and simpler times. I love how the focus is on the center seeds of the puffs.
Day 28, January 28th, 2021
Dominic at the Doctor
Dominic has inherited his father’s and grandmother’s irritable tummy. He’s been having more issues lately so it was time to get him in for some lab work (and get a flu shot while he was there). I was happy he wanted me to come back to the exam room with him and equally tickled that he let me take his photo. I love spending time with him. I can’t believe we are already in the middle of his junior year. It’s going too fast.
Thanks for looking!
