A couple of years ago I got the coolest email through my website. It was from a gentleman named Steve Knight, the President of the Art League of Baytown. He had been browsing Darkroom Gallery‘s list of Darkroom Gallery Masters and noticed my name… the only photographer representing Texas. He had family in New Braunfels and just wanted to say hi and introduce himself. I was so flattered! We chatted by email for a while.
Last year Steve reached out to me and invited me to submit for FotoFest 2020: Shadows and Light, an annual juried exhibition. He thought some of my work would be a perfect fit for the show. I looked up the juror, Catherine Couterier, and was a little intimidated… but went ahead and submitted half a dozen photos. I was thrilled to learn that Catherine chose three of my images to be included in the show!
The Artist’s Reception was scheduled for March 28th, 2020, which of course was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Steve was kind enough to take us on a virtual tour of the gallery. My three images are right at the beginning (#4, 6, and 7) but I encourage you to watch the entire walkthrough. I am honored to be included in this show… the talent absolutely blows me away. In fact, my very favorite image is sandwiched right in between mine… #5: Gripped by Tyler Grace. I LOVE that image.

The first two images are ones that have been selected for other juried shows. Lost in My Head is one of my favorite self-portraits ever. There are so many stories this image could represent. Is she tired? Ill? Sad? I often get lost in my head being a chronic over-thinker. Living Room Fort is a summer-time childhood image of Dominic and his best friend, Rocky, hanging out with a sheet and some chairs… and endless imagination. At the Window is a capture of Dominic when he was just a little boy, standing in his room reading a book by the evening window light. I am very proud to have these hanging in this show at the Art League of Baytown.
