Macro Monday: Orange and Blue

Monday, April 3rd, 2017

This week’s theme for the Flickr Macro Monday group is “Orange and Blue.” From this week’s instructions:

Your challenge this week will be to find a way to photograph two contrasting colors together. Orange and blue are considered opposites on the color wheel. Combining them in your photograph will cause your images to quite literally vibrate with color.

The color duet (or color duel, if you prefer) can be accomplished in several ways.

1.) Find a different object of each color and photograph them together.
2.) Find something that has both colors in it. (Good luck with that!)
3.) Place a blue object on an orange background or an orange object on a blue background.
4.) Utilize warm (orange) and/or cool (blue) lighting to your advantage.

There can be other colors in your composition, but the orange and blue must take up at LEAST 80% of the image. In other words, MOST (if not ALL) of the image needs to be ORANGE and BLUE. It is OK to have more blue than orange or more orange than blue.

Here is a link to a discussion about using orange and blue in photography. There aren’t any macro examples, but is quite informative about how these two contrasting colors work together. Need more inspiration? Just do a Google images search for orange and blue. Now that’s eye-popping color!!

Please Note: You may NOT use the citrus fruit known as an orange. So orange “the color” is good, orange “the fruit” is bad.

Nature Made

After we got back from spring break, we felt toxic. We ate more sugar, fat, and junk food on vacation than we normally eat and we felt yucky. Curtis said something about doing a cleanse and I jumped on the suggestion. We had watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead over four years ago and it resonated with us. We weren’t up for a 60-day challenge, but we thought we could do 3 days. I started researching juicers and found an excellent one on Craigslist for a third of the retail cost. After researching different plans, we decided to follow the 3-day cleanse on Reboot with Joe and we actually made it through all three days. There were a couple of the recipes that were so delicious, we’ve added them to our daily routine. The morning juice, which is comprised of apples, carrots, and ginger root, is by far our favorite. I made this yesterday afternoon and drank it poolside… perfect for this orange and blue challenge.
