It was Mother’s Day weekend, Dominic was sick, Curtis and I got it, I had a photo shoot that I did for a close family friend, then Anna got sick. I’m so far behind it’s crazy. I owe photos and emails to so many lovely people. I’m getting there… be sure to scroll down to read the song my son wrote for me. <3
Day 127 ~ Sunrise
Friday morning was so beautiful and glorious with the morning dew blanketing the lawn that as soon as Dominic’s bus pulled away, I pulled out my macro to capture the glints of sunrise on the grass. Sigh. My soul fulfilled.

Day 127 ~ Surprise Spider and Web
It wasn’t until I downloaded this gem that I saw a surprise… a teeny tiny spider web with a teeny tiny spider… glistening with dew in the sunrise.

Day 127 ~ Winsome Weed
With morning dew and a beautiful sunrise, even a lonely weed looks winsome.

Day 128 ~ A Mother’s Love
Misty and Macie, mother and daughter, have been close family friends since Anna was five years old. Misty used to work for us providing respite and community support for Anna when she was little. I feel like I’ve watched Macie grow up since she’s only a couple of years older than Anna. When Misty asked me if I would take Macie’s senior photos, of course I said yes. I’ll be posting those soon but in the meantime, it doesn’t matter how old our children are, to us moms they will always be our babies.

Day 129 ~ Mother’s Day
I had a lovely Mother’s Day this year. It’s always been a favorite holiday for me and my mom since it was just the two of us for so many years. This year was coloring-centric… I gave mom a complete set of Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils, I got her old ones, and my family got me a set of Marco Raffine pencils. We colored and colored and colored.

The very best part of my day was what the kids did for me. Anna wrote me a letter, it said:
“I love you mom. Thank you for everything that you do. Love Anna. Always love me. She makes me breakfast. She reminds me to do my chores. She picks me up from school.” Ohhh, so sweet!!! <3
Dominic wrote me a song AND sung it to me while strumming his new guitar. I totally cried!!! Here are the lyrics:
My mom
is the bomb
I’ve said enough
cuz she’ll always be there for me
even when times are tough
YeahMom, you rock
picking up our socks
doing the laundry
cleaning up dog pee
Yuck
I have so much luck
to have a mom like youI want you to know
I appreciate you
and all that you do
we’re the luckiest family
because we have our Holly
Uh
(guitar solo)Oh, mom
you truly are the bomb
Happy Mother’s Day
from the whole family
Isn’t that great?!?!?!? Dominic is only 11, wow. He really touched my heart. Curtis wrote me a very sweet note too, on paper and on Facebook.
To Holly,
You are a teacher and role model for our children.
Through you they see
how to love
how to be compassionate
how to bring kindness
how to serve
how to fall
how to grow
and how they should be loved by those that will come later.
Thank you for being a wonderful mother to our kids.
What an incredibly lovely day. I am so very very very lucky. <3<3<3
Day 130 ~ Almost Touchable
A bush flowering in our front bed… the velvety blooms are so fuzzy that it feels like you could almost touch them through the screen.

Day 131 ~ Lola’s Been Usurped
We have so enjoyed getting to know Stuart, our foster fail. We’ve had him for a couple of months now and he has the biggest personality. He is clumsy, pushy, high energy, and a total love bug. He likes sleeping on me day and night, so poor Lola (whose tan ear you can just see in the foreground) constantly gets pushed out of the way. Anna was home sick with me this day so I spent more time on the couch than usual.

Day 132 ~ Empty Halls
I had to pick Anna and Dominic up early for visit to the dentist. Anna arrived first and decided to sit down and get out her phone to listen to Fall Out Boy (Andy, the drummer, is her current obsession) while we waited on Dominic. It’s weird to see the halls so empty.

Day 132 ~ PE Sweat
Dominic finally showed up after about 8 minutes of waiting. Pulling him and his sister out early for a dental checkup meant that he got to miss part of PE… it was hot out there and he was sweaty! Nothing worse than middle school PE, right?

Day 132 ~ Just Like the Other Kids
Prior to moving to New Braunfels, Anna had never sat in a typical pediatric dentist’s chair. This dentist and their staff challenges her… last visit, she even got x-rays. She hates laying down flat, she feels like she is falling (kinda like a Moro reflex that infants have), so they propped a blanket under her neck. I was so proud of her! She had no cavities and we found out that her wisdom teeth are erupting already!

Day 132 ~ Waiting His Turn
While Anna was getting her teeth cleaned, Dominic waited patiently playing My Signing Monsters on his phone. He has always been extremely well-behaved at the dentist and today was no exception. He also had no cavities and has about 6 loose teeth, mostly primary molars. Braces won’t be too far off in his future.

Day 133 ~ Thistle and the Bee
Coming back from the grocery store today, I saw this huge patch of wild thistles. It was so tall and dramatic, that I had to stop and take a picture. The bees were busily buzzing from one blossom to the next.
Nikon D750 | 105mm | f/8 | 1/400 | ISO 200
Day 133 ~ On the Side of the Road
All by itself, off to the side from the thistle patch, was this lone yellow wildflower growing out of the pavement. I thought about titling this “Between a Rock and a Hard Place.” Ha!

Thanks for looking! I would some extra prayers for my friend from high school, Marco, who is dealing with Stage IV colon cancer. His CEA numbers spiked last week and he is headed to MDA for more tests and scans, and he should have the results tomorrow. Thank you.
