Meet our pet deer, Rudy.
Last year, one of the does that beds down in our front yard had twin fawns, both boys. They visited our fence every morning and evening all through this past fall until the fawns were big enough to go off on their own. One fawn was curious and not at all scared of us. Even when Charlie charged the fence and ran off all of the other deer, this buck stood his ground and wasn’t scared. This spring he came back with his brother, and he is just as curious and bold as he was last year. I recognize him… he has a dark mark on the right side of his face under his lower lip. The more I talked to him, the more curious he got. One morning, I was surprised to see him inside of our fence! This is the very first time a deer has jumped the fence since we moved here, though he won’t stay inside the fence when Charlie is out. Since that morning, the buck has gotten closer and closer. I think by the end of the summer, I will have him eating out of my hand. We find him in the back yard several times a week now and felt he needed a name. We thought of Rudolph… and shortened it to Rudy. We are so blessed!
