Caterpillar Capers: Spider Mite Scamper

This is the third image in my caterpillar capers series. Yesterday I shared a photo of my playful geometrid caterpillar, Just Hanging Out. When I got in front of him, I discovered why he had frozen in his tracks. Running up and down all over his body, was this tiny, translucent, red spider. At first I thought it was a tick, but after some research, I discovered it is a spider mite. It was barely visible to the naked eye. Remember that this caterpillar is only an inch long!
