The Comal River at Night

Curtis and I used to go on photo walks regularly and we are trying to start doing that again now that we are settled in New Braunfels. There is so much to explore here and I’m constantly surprised by just how beautiful it is… there are areas that are even prettier than Austin. Curtis and I had a date night last week and we took our cameras out just at sunset. He wanted to show me an area of Landa Park that I hadn’t seen yet and I’m so glad he did! It reminds me of Zilker Park and Town Lake in Austin. Landa Park is 51 acres and has oodles that I have not explored yet. We parked near Hinman Island Park and walked over the bridge to Prince Solms Park, following the Comal River down past the tube chute to the San Antonio Street bridge. It was beautiful!

Sunset over the Comal River

This is the view of the Comal River from the Prince Solms Park looking over to Hinman Island Park (local NB peeps, did I get that right?). The sun is setting, it’s a balmy 68-degrees, and a few folks are splashing in the river.

The Mill

I’m not sure what this is actually called but it’s a working mill of some sort. I looked on Google Maps and couldn’t find a business name. Regardless, it’s very pretty at night, with the lights just beginning to glow.

The River Runs Through It

These are some aqueducts that spill over from one side of the Comal to the other. I’m sure they have a proper name, but again I couldn’t find it. I was excited to try some long exposure action to see if I could make the water look like spun glass. I had to try this sort of hand-held and propped and was pleased to get an image without camera shake or motion blur.

Das Tube Chute on the Comal

I watched a YouTube video of someone tubing (something I have yet to try), and this is a chute that hurtles you from a calm area of the Comal River to a more bumpy area. The chute is located near the red stairs on the left side of the image.

Prince Solms Park/Hinman Park

Back where we started but a little further in, here is another view of my first image after the sun went down. Much emptier now! The foreground trees were lit by street lamps behind me.

I am so looking forward to exploring more of New Braunfels and the surrounding hill country. It is truly beautiful here. <3 Thanks for looking!
