The Photographer Within’s Project 52 ~ A Year in Song has been an amazing journey to watch! Each week, our TPW members continue to inspire me with their artistry and creativity. Our lyrical prompt for Week 30 of The Photographer Within‘s P52 was from The Monster by Eminem and Rhianna and the lyrics we had to shoot were: “I’m friends with the monster that’s under my bed, get along with the voices inside my head.”
The monster under my bed is ME.
The voice inside my head is my monster… and most of the time it tortures me. “Why did you eat that?” “You need to be a better mom.” “You can’t do that!” “If only you’d…” And the worst one, “It’s your fault.”
That voice has caused a lot of anguish. It has caused me to not take risks, it’s made me scared and small. It’s fed by guilt, shame, and anxiety (and perhaps a few too many cookies). I want to be in the world differently, I want to be in my skin differently. I want my voice to make me feel good. I want to be friends with my monster.
My friend, Renee, wrote a very powerful story entitled The Fight that prompted me to think about myself in a kinder way. It moved me to tears. Please let me know your thoughts. <3
