April Self-Portrait ~ Reaching into the Darkness

Clickin Moms is challenging everyone to do 12 self-portraits in 2012, one for each month.  I was so busy in April, participating in the workshop through Clickin Moms called Shooting 301: Composition and Creativity taught by Sarah Wilkerson, that I realized today it was the end of the month! The class has just wrapped up, so I’ll be back to my busy blogging self very soon. (And sharing some images from the workshop too!)

So I thought I was post this image I submitted for my week three critique in class. It’s a self-portrait that is very different for me, working with dramatic light and symbolism, and I wasn’t sure I even liked it when I submitted it. I titled it “Reaching into the Darkness” and was very deliberate in my placement within this pocket of light, choice of lens, aperture, and processing. When I’m feeling intimidated, scared, overwhelmed… I tend to retreat into the darkness, reaching for isolation when feeling trapped in the light. Sarah called it “soulful.” 🙂

I STILL don’t know if I like it!

Here are my images so far this year: JanuaryFebruary, and March if you care to see them again. Thanks for looking!
