i heart faces ~ Best Face Photo from Summer 2011

This week’s theme at i heart faces is “Best Face Photo from Summer 2011.” This is a people’s choice vote which I have never participated in before because I feel funny asking for votes. But this time it’s different because it’s not about me. I’m submitting this photo of my friend Renee. She is battling Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer which has spread to her lungs and bones. I want to share her story because she not only is a kind person, a mom of an adorable 4-year old son, my friend and neighbor, she is an agent of change in the world. She has started a project called Project Sending Love… and it’s all about gratitude. I am grateful to know Renee and have her presence in my life. This particular photo made Pioneer Woman’s blog as a black and white image, which was such an honor. I debated which version to show but I think Renee’s vitality and strength shines through best in color.

I also want to share that I’ve been accepted as a F.I.L.M. volunteer photographer. Family Images for Lasting Memories is an organization that offers photo sessions to cancer patients and their families. I took a photo of my friend, Debbie, just two weeks before she passed away from liver cancer in April and that photo graces family mantels, walls, and office cubicles. Once I finish my orientation in early October, I will be able to offer these sessions to other cancer patients. Please consider contributing to this wonderful organization.

Thanks for looking and for any prayers for Renee. She’s on her second round of chemo and is optimistic… she is amazing.

Editing to add that I made the initial cuts and this photo is eligible for voting. If you feel so inclined, I would be very grateful for your vote. I am #86. Thank you!!!
