Walking to end the “r” word

The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is a fun-filled community fundraiser to support our local Best Buddies programs of inclusion. Their friendship, integrated employment, and leadership programs educate people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities to be advocates for social inclusion in our communities.

This Saturday, the 2011 Best Buddies Friendship Walk takes place in downtown Austin. Our family is walking as a team… “Anna’s Buddies” and we would be honored to have your support. This walk is part of a campaign to end the “r” word ~ a word that hurts those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. To understand how passionately I feel about this subject, please read this post titled “Thoughtful Thursday: retard.”

I am honored to be the team captain for Anna’s Buddies and we aren’t asking for a lot of money. This is more about supporting this grass-roots campaign to change the way society values our intellectually and developmentally challenged citizens. If you give $5 or $50, I will be equally appreciative. If you write a comment on this post with your support, I will be touched. If you share our Sponsor page with your friends and family, I will be moved to tears.

Your involvement as a sponsor helps build a stronger foundation for a better society. Each one of us has the power to change the world for my little girl. Thank you for being a part of it.
