Titillating Fritillary

A butterfly came to play among the lantana on our back patio a few days ago. It was a large butterfly, and at first, I thought it was a monarch. I always think of my Nanny when I see butterflies so I happily grabbed my camera to see if it would stay for a while. Not only did it stay, this gorgeous specimen communed with me. We made eye contact and I felt its soul connect with me.

After downloading my images (I will be sharing six total over the next week), I did a Google image search and discovered this butterfly is called a Gulf Fritillary, the Agraulis Vanillae, also known as the passion butterfly. It migrates over the Gulf of Mexico… hence why it was in my backyard. 😉
